Kidnappers of late Kwara monarch’s wife lower ransom to N40m from N100m after pleas from family

Kidnappers that attacked and killed Oba Olusegun Aremu-Cole, the Olukoro of Koro-Ekiti, in his palace have reduced ransom demanded for the freedom of the late monarch’s wife in their custody from N100 million to N40 million.

Oba Olusegun Aremu-Cole was killed Thursday night when gunmen attacked his palace. The perpetrators left with his wife and another individual.

The kidnappers initially demanded a ransom of N100 million for their release, but after negotiations with the family, they reduced the ransom to N40 million.

Allegedly, a suspect linked to the incident was apprehended in Eruku town within the same local government area on Sunday.

This was confirmed by Kehinde Bayode, Chairman of the Transition Implementation Committee (TIC) in the Ekiti Local Government Council of Kwara State.

The council chairman said, “the kidnappers had got in touch with the family demanding for N100m ransom which has now been reduced to N40m”.

However, the spokesperson for the State Police Command, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, said no arrest had been made in connection with the incident.

“The CP has deployed tactical team to Koro Ekiti to fish out the perpetrators. Policemen are working with other security agencies to free those that were abducted during the kidnapping incident.

“No arrest has been made yet. We are going to keep you abreast of the development as it unfolds,” said Ejire-Adeyemi.
