Kaduna police arrest man accused of kidnapping father twice for ransom

The Nigeria Police Force in Kaduna State has uncovered an alleged kidnapping plot involving a man, Yusuf Rabo, and his nephew, Ali Haruna, who is currently on the run, over the abduction of an elderly man, Alhaji Rabo Jelani.

According to the police, Yusuf Rabo and another suspect, Musa Adamu, were arrested following investigations into the repeated kidnapping of the victim.

Police findings revealed that Yusuf allegedly conspired with Musa Adamu and Ali Haruna — the victim’s grandson — to abduct the elderly man for ransom after accusing him of possessing substantial wealth and livestock.

Investigators said the gang operated with AK-47 rifles during the attacks. Ali Haruna was alleged to have supplied one of the rifles belonging to his father, while other gang members provided additional weapons. Security operatives reportedly recovered one AK-47 rifle with an empty magazine during the operation.

The police disclosed that the victim was kidnapped on two separate occasions and taken to forest hideouts where ransom negotiations were allegedly coordinated by Yusuf Rabo himself.

According to the command, the first abduction reportedly fetched a ransom of ₦2 million, while the second operation generated ₦4.5 million.

Authorities also linked the suspects to other criminal activities in the area, including the kidnapping of a trader identified as Mr Iyke and an armed robbery attack along the Kagoma axis, where travellers were dispossessed of cash and valuables.

The police said efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspect, Ali Haruna, and recover additional weapons and items connected to the crimes.
