Story from Kasim Isa MUHAMMAD, Damaturu

In a bid to enhance the teaching techniques of Arabic and Islamic educators, the Yobe State Government has organised a one-day workshop for public schools teachers across the seventeen local government areas of the state.

The workshop was held at the Government Girls College Damaturu to educate teachers on instilling good virtues in students.

Dr. Muhammad Sani Idriss, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, emphasized the importance of efficiently teaching students to learn and memorise the Holy Qur’an within a short timeframe.

He highlighted the government’s recognition of the necessity for a dual curriculum, enabling students to acquire both Western and Islamic knowledge from the secondary level.

“We aim to ensure teachers engage students using effective Quranic learning methods, ultimately graduating students with exemplary virtues. It’s important to note that Quran memorisation is optional,” Dr. Idriss said.

Also speaking, Alhaji Bukar Aji Bukar, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, expressed gratitude for the teachers’ turnout, underscoring the workshop’s significance in advancing the state’s education sector.
