Casual worker arrested over colleague’s death at Gombe govt house

The Gombe State Police Command has arrested a 19-year-old casual worker, Shuaibu Adamu, over the killing of a fellow worker, Malam Umar, at the Gombe Government House.
The police spokesman in the state, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, said the incident occurred on Thursday, December 25, 2025, within the Government House premises and involved two casual staff members.
According to him, the command received a distress call at about 3:50 p.m. reporting that a man identified as Malam Umar, also known as “Baba Usama,” had been found unconscious. Police operatives were immediately deployed to the scene, and the victim, a borehole operator attached to the Government House, was rushed to the Specialist Hospital, Gombe, where a medical doctor confirmed him dead.
DSP Abdullahi said the circumstances surrounding the death appeared suspicious, prompting the Commissioner of Police, Umar Ahmed Chuso, to visit the scene and order a thorough investigation.

He explained that a review of CCTV footage within the Government House revealed that the deceased had been assaulted shortly before his death by another casual worker. Further investigation identified the suspect as Shuaibu Adamu, also known as “Yaya Mama,” who was attached to a construction company operating within the Government House.
Police said the suspect fled the scene after the incident but was tracked and arrested later that night during a coordinated operation. He was apprehended at about 11:00 p.m. at his hideout in Bagadaza Quarters, Gombe. During preliminary interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to the crime.
The remains of the deceased have been deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy, while the suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue.
