Trump’s plane diverts due to mechanical issue, continues to Montana rally
Former U.S. President Donald Trump faced an unexpected detour on his way to a campaign rally in Montana on Friday, when his plane was forced to make an emergency landing due to a mechanical issue.
Trump was en route to Bozeman, Montana, for a rally aimed at bolstering support for Republican Senate candidate Tim Sheehy. However, the plane was diverted to Billings, Montana, located 142 miles east of his intended destination, after encountering technical difficulties.
Jenny Mockel, an administrative assistant at Billings Logan International Airport, confirmed that Trump’s plane made the unscheduled stop on Friday afternoon. “The former president was continuing to Bozeman via private jet,” Mockel stated.
Despite the incident, Trump’s campaign posted a video of him upon landing, where he expressed his enthusiasm about being in Montana but made no mention of the emergency diversion.
The rally, which took place at Montana State University, was part of Trump’s efforts to unseat Democratic Senator Jon Tester.
Tester, who has previously aligned himself with Trump on several issues, faces a tough re-election battle against Sheehy, a former Navy SEAL with strong ties to Trump.

Tester’s 2018 victory came after a contentious campaign in which Trump actively campaigned against him, following the senator’s role in blocking the nomination of Trump’s personal physician, Ronny Jackson, to lead the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Trump’s appearance in Montana is seen as a critical move to galvanize support for Sheehy and ensure a strong Republican turnout in the upcoming election. Political analysts believe that Trump’s presence on the ticket could significantly impact the race, potentially swaying undecided voters in Sheehy’s favour.
The rally, which drew thousands of supporters, showcased Trump’s continued influence within the Republican Party, particularly in states like Montana, where he enjoys considerable popularity.
