Dr. Hassan Gimba, the Chief Executive Officer and Publisher of Neptune Prime Newspapers, took significant strides towards community development in Potiskum, Yobe State, by commissioning the Hafsatu Gimba Ahmed Memorial School on Saturday, August 31, 2024.

The school, located at VIO Street, Unguwar Jaji, was named in honour of Dr. Gimba’s late mother and is equipped with modern facilities, including a borehole, classrooms with electricity, fans, toilets, and teaching equipment such as computers and textbooks.

Following the school’s inauguration, Dr. Gimba inspected the ongoing construction of the Lami Fatima Babare Cancer Clinic, also situated in Unguwar Jaji. The clinic, named after his late wife who passed away from cervical cancer, is intended to serve as a screening center for cervical cancer and to provide primary healthcare services to the local community.

Dr. Gimba emphasized that while the clinic is primarily focused on cervical cancer screening, it will also serve as a primary healthcare facility to address various health needs in the community, complementing the efforts of the Yobe State Government.

The events were attended by several dignitaries, including the Shettima of Fika, Alhaji Bukar Abubakar, who represented the Emir of Fika, His Royal Highness Dr. Muhammad Abali Ibn Muhammadu Idrisa, as well as Professor M.K. Othman of Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Dr. Mamman Mohammed, and Dr. Adamu Alhassan Umar, the National President of the Nigerian Cancer Society. Also present was Iliya Joshua, a Zonal Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Customs Service for Bauchi-Yobe, and other dignitaries.

In addition to the school and clinic activities, Fatima Monja, daughter of the late veteran journalist Abubakar Monja, who passed away in 1996, distributed certificates of attendance to students who completed a three-month training programme in tailoring and plumbing. This training was organised by the Abubakar Monja Lifeline Foundation for the Welfare of Late Journalists’ Families, founded by Dr. Hassan Gimba.

Earlier in the day, Dr. Gimba, along with family, friends, and well-wishers, attended the wedding Fatiha of his son, Barrister Suleiman Gimba. The ceremony took place at the residence of Mohammed Babate, located behind the Water Board and Army Barracks in Potiskum.
