FG wants death penalty for #EndbadGovernance protesters

The Nigerian government, under President Bola Tinubu, is pursuing the death penalty for ten individuals involved in the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protests, as revealed in recent court documents.

According to a report, the protesters face charges of treason, a capital offense that carries the possibility of execution.

The individuals accused include Michael Tobiloba Adaramoye, Adeyemi Abiodun Abayomi, Suleiman Yakubu Opaluwa, Eleojo Simon, Angel Love Innocent Buhari, Lawal Mosiu Sadiq, Bashir Bello, Nuradeen Khamis Abdulsalam, and Zubairu.

Following the conclusion of the protests against ongoing economic hardship and insecurity last month, security forces have intensified their crackdown, leading to the arrest of hundreds, including minors.

Many of those detained are currently being held without formal charges, raising serious concerns and criticisms from human rights organisations regarding the government’s authoritarian methods.

This escalating situation has alarmed human rights advocates, who have voiced their outrage over the government’s stringent response to the protests.
