Bayelsa APC lifts suspension of Lokpobiri, others

The Bayelsa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially reversed the suspensions of several prominent members, including Minister of State for Petroleum Heineken Lokpobiri.

This decision followed an extended meeting with state executives, local government chairmen, and party lawmakers.

The meeting addressed ongoing tensions within the party, particularly in the Southern Ijaw, Ekeremor, Sagbama, and Yenagoa local government areas, where key figures like Senator Lokpobiri and former gubernatorial candidate Chief David Lyon had been suspended.

In a communiqué released on October 15, state chairman Chief Dennis Otiotio-Odoni and acting State Secretary Owutuamo Tamaranpreye announced the reversal of suspensions, responding to a plea from the minority caucus of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly.

The caucus, which comprises the only elected APC members in the state, called for further consultations with key party stakeholders.

The communiqué condemned recent violent actions allegedly carried out by the state Commissioner for Power, Mr. Kharin Kumoku, who reportedly led an attack on the APC state secretariat.

It urged Governor Douye Diri to address the commissioner’s conduct and called for investigations by the state police and the Department of State Services.
