FG approves Kogi’s plan to build international airport in Zariagi
The Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development has approved the Kogi State Government’s proposal to construct an international airport in Zariagi.
This approval, dated October 9, 2024, is seen as a significant development for Kogi State, as the planned airport is expected to reduce traffic on the Lokoja-Abuja road and alleviate congestion at Abuja’s International Airport.
Kogi’s Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, announced that Governor Usman Ododo’s administration is committed to completing the airport with full compliance to aviation standards.

The airport is envisioned to serve not only Kogi State but also ten neighboring states, enhancing regional connectivity and economic growth.
Additionally, the project will include cargo facilities, supporting Kogi’s economic aspirations by creating jobs and elevating the state’s presence on the global stage.
Fanwo expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Aviation Minister for the approval, emphasizing the administration’s ongoing commitment to developmental projects in Kogi State.
Zariagi, a strategically located community with an existing airstrip, has been deemed a suitable site by the Ministry of Aviation’s inspection team.
