Police arrest officer for alleged killing of musician
The Enugu State Police Command has apprehended an officer, Inspector Joseph Ozonwanji, for allegedly shooting and killing a musician, Okezie Nwamba, popularly known as Igbo-Jah. The incident occurred on Friday at the Anti-Cult Unit of the Enugu State Police Command, sparking immediate outrage and protests from residents who marched to the anti-cult headquarters, attempting to set it ablaze.
In reaction to the tragic incident, the Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, ordered a comprehensive investigation into the killing. The command’s spokesperson, Deputy Superintendent of Police Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed the identity of the officer and stated that Inspector Ozonwanji is currently in custody. “He will be made to face the full weight of the law upon the conclusion of the investigation,” Ndukwe assured.

To express sympathy, the Commissioner of Police, Kanayo Uzuegbu, accompanied by Enugu State Government officials, visited the family of the late musician. During the visit, Uzuegbu extended his condolences to Nwamba’s family and friends, emphasizing that justice would be pursued swiftly and fairly. The police commissioner reiterated that the Nigerian Police Force remains a disciplined institution where officers who commit misconduct are held accountable.
Uzegbu further urged Nigerians to maintain confidence in the police force’s commitment to justice, assuring them that the investigation would be thorough and transparent.
