Story by Susan Mbamah

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a fresh warning to traders and importers over the continued importation of prohibited food products into the country.

According to the agency, several banned items have recently resurfaced in Nigerian markets, raising concerns about public health and safety. NAFDAC noted that many of these products fail to meet basic quality and safety standards, posing potential risks to consumers.

The agency reiterated that only food items that comply with Nigerian regulations and have passed mandatory safety checks are allowed into the country. It urged importers to adhere strictly to approved guidelines and warned that defaulters would face penalties, including seizure of goods, fines, and possible prosecution.

NAFDAC also advised the public to remain vigilant and avoid purchasing unregistered or questionable food products, emphasizing its commitment to safeguarding the health of Nigerians through strict enforcement of existing food safety laws.
