YSUBEB to prioritize learning materials for schools in 2026 — Executive Secretary
The Executive Secretary of the Yobe State Universal Basic Education Board (YSUBEB), Mallam Isa Shettima, has reaffirmed the board’s commitment to enhancing the quality of basic education across the state, announcing that a major focus for 2026 will be the provision of essential learning materials to schools.
Shettima disclosed this during a conversation with our correspondent on Sunday, stressing that the initiative forms part of the board’s broader strategy to improve teaching and learning outcomes. According to him, the board has carried out several assessments across public schools in the state and identified learning materials as a critical need moving forward.
“In 2026, our primary goal is to ensure that every school under our supervision receives adequate and up-to-date learning materials,” Shettima stated. He explained that these materials would include textbooks, writing materials, instructional charts, laboratory tools, and other resources that support classroom activities.
He added that the board is already working closely with relevant stakeholders to guarantee smooth implementation. “We are collaborating with the state government, development partners, and community-based stakeholders to make sure this plan is fully realized. The future of our children depends on the quality of education we give them today,” he said.
Mallam Shettima noted that while infrastructure development remains important, the board recognizes that students and teachers need the right tools to maximize the use of existing facilities. He emphasized that YSUBEB’s 2026 plan would complement ongoing efforts to renovate schools, train teachers, and strengthen monitoring mechanisms across the state.

Parents and teachers have also reportedly expressed optimism about the board’s renewed focus. Many believe that improved access to learning materials will boost student performance, reduce the burden on families, and enhance teaching efficiency.
Shettima concluded by assuring the public that YSUBEB is committed to transparency and accountability in the execution of its programs. “We want to ensure that every kobo spent directly benefits the child in the classroom. That is our duty, and we are determined to uphold it,” he affirmed.
