Gov. Buni appoints new chairman, board members for Yobe Great Green Wall Agency

Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has approved the appointment of a chairman and members of the board for the Yobe State Great Green Wall Agency, in a move aimed at strengthening environmental protection and combating desertification in the state.

A statement from the state government said the appointments are part of efforts to reposition the agency for improved performance in addressing climate change, land degradation, and the effects of desert encroachment across Yobe.

The newly appointed chairman is expected to provide strategic leadership, while the board members will support policy direction, oversight, and implementation of programmes aligned with the objectives of the Great Green Wall initiative.

Governor Buni charged the appointees to bring their wealth of experience to bear in advancing sustainable environmental practices, community engagement, and effective utilisation of resources to achieve the agency’s mandate.

The Great Green Wall programme is a continental initiative aimed at restoring degraded land, improving livelihoods, and enhancing resilience against climate-related challenges in the Sahel region.

The state government expressed confidence that the new leadership would accelerate ongoing projects and introduce innovative approaches to environmental sustainability in Yobe State.
