Iran to conduct live-fire, military drills in strait of Hormuz

‎Iran has announced plans to conduct live-fire military exercises in and around the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most strategic maritime corridors, beginning next week.

‎According to an official Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) issued by Iranian authorities, the exercises will involve live ammunition and will take place within a designated operational zone near the strait. The notice declared the affected airspace restricted and hazardous, covering areas from ground level up to 25,000 feet for the duration of the drills.

‎As part of the operation, ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz will be instructed to follow specific routes to ensure safety and avoid the exercise zone. Aviation operators have also been advised to steer clear of the restricted airspace while the drills are ongoing.

‎Iranian officials described the exercises as part of routine military preparedness, though the announcement comes amid heightened regional tensions and increased military activity in the Middle East, including an expanded presence of foreign naval and air forces.

‎The Strait of Hormuz is a critical global energy chokepoint, with a significant portion of the world’s oil and gas exports passing through it daily. Any military activity in the area is closely watched by international shipping, aviation authorities, and global markets.

‎No details were provided on the specific weapon systems to be used during the drills, and there has been no immediate report of disruption to commercial shipping beyond the routing instructions issued by Iranian authorities.
