APC commends flawless ward congresses in Yobe, records zero petitions
Story by Sa’adatu MAINA, Damaturu
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has successfully concluded its ward congresses across all 178 wards in Yobe State, a process national committees have described as a benchmark in transparency and internal democracy.
The exercise, which saw aspirants vetted and positions contested across the state, was notably free of acrimony, with the national appeal committee confirming it received zero petitions.
Dr Muttaqa Rabe Darma, Chairman of the APC Congress Committee in Yobe, attributed the seamless operation to the political maturity fostered by the state’s leadership.
He specifically lauded Governor Mai Mala Buni, a former APC National Secretary, for his institutional knowledge and cooperative approach.

“His understanding of these processes is profound,” Darma stated. “He knows the ins and outs of these activities and made it very simple for us. The environment he has created allowed us to do our work without rancour.”
Chairman of APC ward congress screening committee in Yobe, Professor David Yakubu, clarified that the team’s mandate was strictly verification, emphasising that party leadership is a privilege of genuine membership.
“Our job was clear: to ensure that anyone seeking to lead the party is first and foremost a registered member. You cannot lead where you do not belong,” he said.
Professor Yakubu confirmed that aspirants from all 178 wards were successfully screened and cleared to participate, laying the groundwork for a credible process.

On his part, Dr Francis Okoye, Chairman of the Screening Appeal Committee, noted that the absence of petitions was a resounding endorsement of the exercise’s quality.
“I can confirm that nobody wrote any petition to my committee,” Okoye remarked. “The work done by Professor Yakubu’s team was excellent and very clean, giving no one any reason to appeal. It is one of the best state exercises we have overseen.”
In his concluding remarks, Yobe State APC Chairman, Alhaji Mohammad Gadaka, expressed profound gratitude to the national committees for their professionalism.
He reaffirmed the party’s cohesion under the APC banner, stating that the successful congresses have set a positive and unified trajectory for the party ahead of future electoral cycles in the state.
