Gov. Buni cuts tractor hire fees by 50% to boost food production

Farmers in Yobe State are set to benefit from a major relief measure after Governor Mai Mala Buni approved a sharp reduction in tractor hiring costs, cutting the price from ₦100,000 to ₦50,000.

The announcement was made by the Acting Secretary to the State Government, Dr Mohammed Goje, who described the move as part of the administration’s broader strategy to reduce financial pressure on farmers and drive agricultural productivity.

With a 50% decrease in hiring fees, more farmers can now access mechanised services, cultivate larger farmlands, and improve output during the current farming season, Dr Goje explained.

He noted that the policy is expected to lower cultivation costs, boost food production, and significantly enhance food security across the state.

The acting SSG reaffirmed that Governor Buni’s government has consistently prioritised agriculture, providing support through farm machinery, high-quality seeds, fertilisers, and other empowerment programmes aimed at strengthening rural economies.

By making tractor services more affordable, the administration hopes to encourage greater participation in farming and help farmers achieve higher yields.

Dr Goje concluded by reiterating the government’s commitment to sustaining policies that promote agricultural growth, create jobs, and improve the livelihoods of Yobe residents.
