Ughelli- The Delta state Police Command has confirmed the killing of two mobile policemen and a wife of a popular businessman (name withheld) at Okuokoko town in Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State by suspected assassins on Saturday.
The Delta Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Onome Onowakpoyeya who confirmed the incident on Sunday, said two Mobile Policemen were killed by suspected gunmen but could not give further details of the incident.
It was gathered that the gunmen trailed the businessman from his office to his residence at Mcnero Street in Okuokoko town where the incident occurred at about 8pm.
A source who confided in DAILY INDEPENDENT said the Mobile Policemen were said to have been escorting the businessman when they were ambushed by the suspected assassins numbering about six.
According to the source he said “the Mobile Policemen were defending the businessman and his family during the attack but were hit by bullets and reportedly died on the spot and lady which was later identified as wife of the businessman was also killed during the deadly attack. The businessman survived the incident but sustained gunshot injuries and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital”.
The source revealed further that the victim (businessman) is into wholesale of assorted drinks but said he could not really tell the motive of the robbers.
