Bauchi Assembly Speaker declares slain lawmaker’s seat vacant

The Speaker, Bauchi State House of Assembly, Rt Honourable Abubakar Sulaiman has declared vacant the seat of the member representing Dass Constituency, Musa Mante Baraza who was killed by unknown gunmen, just as he has notified the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of its decision.

It could be recalled that unknown gunmen killed late Honourable Musa Mante Baraza, midnight of 18 August 2020 and abducted his two wives and a baby who eventually regained their freedom.

The Speaker who made the pronouncement in a plenary he presided over on Tuesday, stated that “based on the power vested on me by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the seat of Dass Constituency in this Assembly is declared vacant”.

The Speaker ordered the clerk of the House to write the INEC to formally inform the commission that Dass Constituency seat in the Assembly is vacant to enable it to start the process for conducting bye-election in the constituency.
