Bighearted Honourable Zainab Gimba, a member of the Federal House of Representatives, Borno State, representing the people of Bama, Ngala and Kalabalge Federal Constituency, have distributed 200 wheelchairs and cash gifts to People Living With Physical Disabilities (PLWPD) in her constituency.
Honourable Zainab also extended her empowerment programme outside her constituency where some PLWPD formed part of the beneficiaries.
This rare gesture had sparked controversy within the House of Representatives, leaving many federal legislators including the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, denying having the financial capability to carry out such an empowerment programme.
Recall that Honourable Zainab doled out cash, rams, clothing materials and foodstuffs worth 40 million naira to the poor in her constituency recently.

Zainab being the only female federal legislator from Borno State, urged the 200 beneficiaries to make good use of the wheelchairs as she plans more palliatives to cushion their hardship.
“The socio-economic challenges being faced by the populace is enormous and attempts made at managing these challenges have been diverse. it has been diverse because different groups of people are impacted differently.
“The vulnerable groups are affected more and the People Living With Physical Disabilities (PLWPD) and women suffer more hence I have decided to give out these mobile support vehicles in form of wheelchairs to energize your capabilities,” she said.
Honourable Zainab further called on the leaders of all political parties, particularly her party – the All Progressives Congress (APC) to ensure the inclusion of the womenfolk and PLWPD as local government elections approach in the state.
“My appeal goes to the leaders of political parties, especially our amiable party (APC) to ensure the inclusion of women and PLWPD in this process not only for the sake of equity but social development.
“This can be done by concerted efforts and partnerships between men and women for progress and for the achievement of dividends of democracy,” she said.
