As movie studios and exhibitors continue to face uncertainty over when theatres will be open en masse, another film has been pushed out of 2021, Marry Me.

Universal Pictures has pushed Marry Me, starring Jennifer Lopez and Owen Wilson, from its most recent date of May 14, 2021, to February 11, 2022, via The Hollywood Reporter.

The romantic comedy was originally slated for release in early February 2021, though it was ultimately pushed to May amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The project is based on the graphic novel of the same name by Bobby Crosby which centres on a beloved pop star (Lopez).

She is about to get married to her rock star fiancee (Maluma) during a massive event at Madison Square Garden, and just moments before exchanging vows learns he’s been cheating on her with her assistant.

After an on-stage meltdown, she picks a random man out of the crowd – a divorced math teacher (Wilson) to marry instead.

Lopez and Wilson were both spotted frequently filming the rom-com in New York City between October and November in 2019.

The movie is said to include numerous original songs by both Lopez and Maluma that will be featured on the soundtrack.

Marry Me also stars Sarah Silverman, John Bradley, Chloe Coleman, Stephen Wallem, Jameela Jamil and Jimmy Fallon as himself.

Kat Coiro (She-Hulk) directs Marry Me from a script by John Rogers (Transformers, Leverage), Tami Sagher (30 Rock) and Harper Dill (The Mick), based on Crosby’s graphic novel.

Lopez also produces alongside her Nuyorican Productions partner Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas and Rogers.

Coming soon: Lopez is also attached to star in The Godmother for director Reed Morano (The Rhythm Section), playing drug lord Griselda Blanco

Marry Me is just the latest project to be pushed out of 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Lopez is also attached to star in The Godmother for director Reed Morano (The Rhythm Section), playing drug lord Griselda Blanco.

She is also set to star in Shotgun Wedding with Josh Duhamel, Jennifer Coolidge and Sonia Braga.
