United Arab Emirates’ Finance Minister and deputy ruler of Dubai, Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum is dead.
Hamdan, who has been the Finance Minister since 1971, died at the age of 75.
In a statement released by the Dubai media office on Wednesday, UAE President Khalifa bin Zayed ordered that flags be flown at half-mast across the country until Saturday to mark three days of mourning.
Hamdan had been unwell and underwent surgery abroad in 2020. Further details have not been disclosed yet.
“Dubai has announced a 10-day mourning period and funeral prayers will be restricted to family members due to the coronavirus pandemic,” the statement added.
