As part of efforts to revive and re-strategize against the 2023 elections, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Yobe State has on Monday elected new Executive Committee members to pilot the affairs of the party in the state.

The election which produced 39 new executive members came after about a year without substantive state leaders following rivalry and other crises that plagued the party during the period.

Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Gebon Kataps explained that the total delegates for Yobe state is 1,819 while the total accredited delegates is 1,509.

“The party’s constitutional guideline provides that to trigger a congress two-third of the total number of delegates should form a congress and.

“I am pleased to inform us that two-third of 1,819 is 1,364. So the total accredited delegates are 1,509 which is above the requirements for the congress for the congress to hold.

“I therefore announced that for the office of Chairman, the candidate Senator Ambassador El-Gash Umar scored total votes of 1,509 and is accordingly returned elected.

“For the office of the Deputy Chairman, Engr. Jajeri Buba scored the total votes of 1,504 and is accordingly returned elected.

“For the office of the Vice Chairman, Alhaji Usaini Yaroro scored the total votes of 1,499 and is therefore returned elected, for the State Secretary Sani Bilal scored the total votes of 1,458 and returned elected.”

Kataps commended all the participants patience and resilience to ensure a successful state congress.

“On behalf of the National party chairman Uche Secondus and members of the national working committee we want to congratulate the new elected state executive committee members.

“I urge you to uphold the tenets and principles contained in the memorandum, article and constitution of the PDP. You should be fair and just to carry all party members alone.”, he added.

In his acceptance speech, El-Gash Umar, reassured his determination to build and reposition the party to a better position.

“I am humbled and honoured to stand before you and formerly inform you that all the elected Exco’s and myself have accepted the mandate given to us, to build our great party PDP.

“We thank you so much for the confidence repose in us and equally I assure you that we should work very hard and not let anyone down.

“There is no better time for our party to be committed united and focused then now, considering the mismanagement of public resources and misapplication of priorities by the APC led government in Yobe state.”, Umar added.
