As parts of activities marking their 2021 Combats Arms Training (CAT) week, soldiers under the Nigerian Army Armoured Corps Bauchi, on Monday, embarked on the sanitation of streets and evacuation of refuse in the Bauchi state capital.
The soldiers in their numbers led by the commander of the armoured corps, Major General Muhammed Magaji, swept the Maiduguri bye pass, Yan Doka, GRA roads, roundabouts and evacuated the heap of refuse dumped at Bayan Gari area of the state capital.
In an interview with journalists, Major General Muhammed Magaji said the sanitation exercise was included in the activities of the CAT week so that his officers could contribute their quota in keeping the state capital clean.
He added that the corps partnered with the Bauchi State Environmental Protection Agency (BASEPA) to evacuate the waste products during the sanitation exercise.
According to him, the duty of the Nigerian army is to provide security to the nation saying aside that, they also have social responsibilities to their host communities.
“Today, we are kick-starting our Combats Arms Training week. Bauchi is the home of the armour. One of the serious problems in Bauchi is the issue of environmental sanitation. The sanitation is in line with the civil/military cooperation. We have been giving back to the society by building roads, bridges and offering medical services”. He noted.
Other activities scheduled to take place during the CAT week according to Magaji are lectures, commissioning of projects to be done by the chief of army staff and firepower demonstration between the infantry and the armoured units of the corps.
