Jealous Jigawa woman drinks poison to prevent husband from marrying another wife

A 20-year-old woman identified as Dausiyya Dahiru from Roni, Roni local Government area of Jigawa State, is reportedly receiving treatment in the hospital after a failed suicide attempt.

According to reports, the 20-year-old housewife bought a bottle of poison and mixed it with her food in an attempt to end her life after she was divorced by her husband, who, instead of taking her back, was planning to marry another woman.

It was also revealed that the victim had made several attempts to stop her estranged husband from marrying another woman, even though she and the man have been at loggerheads since after the divorce.

Sources reveal that when the husband later stated his intentions to take another wife, Dausiyya took the news in a bad light and bought the insecticide to end her life.

The state police spokesman, ASP Lawan Shiisu Adam, confirming the incident to newsmen in a statement, said the police in the area were alerted by neighbours who tried to resuscitate the woman after she ingested the sniper content mixed with her food.

Shiisu said, according to the neighbours who witnessed the incident, Dausiyya fainted and was immediately rushed to the hospital in Roni for medical attention. He said they later alerted the police who are currently monitoring the victim.

The doctor at Roni medical Centre said Dausiyya was brought in a very critical condition by her neighbours, but the medical team were able to stabilise her and she’s responding well to treatment now.
