Interfaith Dialogue Forum for Peace (IDFP) in collaboration with the National Primary Health care Development Agency (NPHCDA), International Dialogue Centre (KAICIID) was in Yobe to sensitise religious leaders on reaching out to their members on why they should take Covid-19 vaccine so as not to contract the disease.
The chairman of the COVID-19 vaccine campaign, Interfaith Dialogue Forum for Peace, Rev. Zaka Ahuche Peter, said the organisation was founded to foster peace.
According to Rev. Zaka, when the Covid-19 pandemic came, the organisation selected 10 states, visited and carried out sensitisation and gave them all necessary materials.
“We target religious leaders as they have a big role to play. They can provide the oversight role for health facilities in their places of worship to ensure they provide the necessary services on Covid-19 and its vaccination services. “They can also include Covid-19 vaccination messages in their sermon, public announcements and fellowship meetings.
“Our expectation is that there is going to be mass acceptance of the vaccine in Yobe state after the sensitization.”
Chief Imam Yobe mosque and Islamic centre, Sheikh Hudu Muhammad Yusuf, said the event was important as it would make people understand the importance of having the Covid-19 vaccine.
He encouraged the people to come and vaccinate because “it is the right step taken by government and health personnel.”
Rev. Victor Daramola said the sensitisation idea was a good one, adding that there is a need to understand what can help them to leave healthy especially within the pandemic period.
He said the massage will be spread to his members in a bid to make them understand that the COVID-19 vaccine is not harmful to health.
The interfaith dialogue forum on covid-19 vaccine sensitisation drew participants from the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), the Federation of Muslim Women Association of Nigeria (FOMWAN), Traditional Institution Leaders, Jama Atul Nastrul Islam(JNI) securities agencies, among other religious bodies
