How a gang of cultists hacked college of education trader to death in Cross River

A man has been brutally hacked to death by some suspected cultists in Cross River State College of Education, COE in Awi, Akamkpa.

The victim identified simply as “Omalor” was a trader who sold food and drinks inside the campus in Akamkpa Local Government Area of Cross River state.

The reason why the hoodlums killed the man is still uncertain, as the victim was simply reported to have been macheted by the assailants until he died.

Another to an eyewitness at the scene of the incident “Omalor was selling that day like every other day when the cultists went and killed him because he was trying to stop them,”.

“They cut him with machetes on his head, hands and other parts of the body several times and he bled to death.

The eyewitness who pleads anonymity further assured that the deceased doesn’t belong to any cult group and has no idea why the cult boys targeted him.

“He was not a cultist; he has been selling there for over 20 years now. He sells drinks and food.” The eyewitness added.

For decades, Cultism has been a major problem for several higher institutions in Nigeria, and extensively the larger Nigerian society. This menace has been troubling the academic sector since the existence of university education in Nigeria. It has become extra worrisome to have students and staff on campuses, hence several measures have been put in place over the years to curb cultism. Some of which includes the expulsion of the cultists caught and outright ban of cultism on campuses, though little success has been achieved with those measures as cult activities are still on the rise and people lost their lives to cultists daily.
