AFCPN 2021: Super Eagles defeat Egypt by a lone goal
Story from Abah ADAH, Abuja
The Super Eagles of Nigeria started their campaign in the 2021 (33rd) Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) soccer competitions in Cameroon on Tuesday with a 1-0 defeat of Egypt.
Leicester City attacker, Kelechi Iheanacho scored in the 30th minute to give the Super Eagles the lead.
The impressive Eagles, who dominated the game in both first and last halves, sustained the tempo but wasted several chances to score.
Despite the Eagles lacklustre preparations that culminated in some high profile withdrawals, the Nigeria national team held down the North Africans squarely.
The venue is the 30,000-capacity Stade Roumdé Adjia in the northern Cameroonian town of Garoua and the kick-off is 5 p.m.
