Afrobeat musician and son of late Afrobeat music maestro, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, Femi Kuti, has expressed his desire to be cremated, instead of subjecting his family to be looking for a grave or coffin to bury him.
Femi Kuti stated this on Sunday in Lagos during a performance at the new Africa shrine as part of his 59th birthday.

According to him, he doesn’t want a loud burial ceremony but to be cremated after a funeral, to be attended by friends and close family members.
“When I die, please cremate me, burn my body, it is the most hygienic way to accord a deceased.”
He also asked his listeners to consider what happens to corpses buried in cemeteries in Lagos.
“Have you all thought about Ikoyi Cemetery? This Lagos has been in existence for let’s just say 60 years and if people don’t die today they will die tomorrow, yet our burial grounds are not full. If you check it is not like one million acres and since I was born they have been burying people there”.
Femi’s younger sister, Sola Kuti, who died in 1997 shortly after Fela’s death, was cremated in Lagos according to reports.
