Abandoned day-old baby covered in ants rescued in Niger
A newborn baby boy, only a day old, was found abandoned in Tayi Area of Minna, the capital city of Niger State, on Saturday evening.
Residents discovered the infant wrapped in a leather and left without any clothes, with ants already crawling on him.
Aliyu Bala Ibrahim, one of the witnesses, described the scene as the most tragic he had ever seen.
He said: “Ants had started crawling on him before he was found. This is the most tragic scene I’ve ever seen in my life. A capital punishment should be introduced against people that do this.

“The umbilical cord is still attached to the baby. I think he was given birth to few hours ago. They didn’t even bathe him. They just washed the blood off his body and threw him away”.
