Jack Dorsey, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and co-founder of microblogging platform Twitter, has resigned.

This was disclosed in a tweet by the outgoing CEO few minutes ago.

Dorsey leaves the company after being at the helm of affairs for 16 years.

“After almost 16 years of having a role at our company, from co-founder to CEO to chair to Exec chair to interim-CEO to CEO…I decided it’s finally time for me to leave. Why? There is a lot of talk about the importance of a company being “founder-led.”

“Ultimately I believe that’s severely limiting and a single point of failure. I have worked hard to ensure that this company can break away from its founding and founders,” Dorsey said in a mail.

“I resigned from Twitter,” he wrote.

Parag Agrawal, the company’s Chief Technology Officer (CTO), is taking over as CEO effective immediately.

Twitter, unarguably has become an indispensable tool for fast dissemination of information and events across the globe.

The platform has availed members of the community to have their say on critical societal issues, real life situations and governments’ decisions on national issues as they affect citizens.
