After 4 years, Indian police apprehend killers of Nigerian man in Mumbai

 

In a significant breakthrough, the Indian police have successfully apprehended one of the suspects involved in the murder of a 35-year-old Nigerian man in Nalasopara, Mumbai, four years ago. The accused, identified as Kancha, aged 28, was found living in the same town under a false identity, as confirmed by a crime branch official on Tuesday, October 17, 2023.

With Kancha’s arrest, also known as Roshan Bechain Mandal and Ashfaq Mohammad Sheikh, the number of individuals in custody related to the crime has risen to two, while two others remain at large.

The murder of Joseph, also known as Chindiniju Amechi Wilson, shocked the community when his body was discovered on a road in the Pragati Nagar area of Nalasopara on October 16, 2019.

Following the tragic incident, the local Nigerian community expressed their outrage, leading to the damaging of parked vehicles and demanding justice for the perpetrators.

During the course of their investigation, the police identified four men allegedly involved in the crime and arrested Nasir Khan. Subsequently, a charge sheet was filed against him in court, as confirmed by an official from the Vasai crime branch (unit II).

Acting on a tip-off, the police discovered that the accused, Kancha, also known as Roshan Mandal, had moved to Bengaluru six months after the murder and assumed a new identity. He was found residing in Nalasopara under the name Ashfaq Sheikh, with altered physical features.

Authorities have determined that the murder is connected to a drug deal, shedding some light on the motive behind the tragic incident. The continued efforts of the police in apprehending the suspects signify progress in seeking justice for the Nigerian man’s murder.
