Nigerian government said the Abuja-Kaduna train that was shut down after a terrorist attack in March 2022 will resume operations this November.

Channels TV reports that the Minister Of Transportation, Mu’azu Sambo, made this known on Monday while giving the scorecard of his ministry in Abuja.

He said adequate security has been put in place to ensure the safety of passengers but did not give any specific date for the resumption.

Sambo said the ministry has learned enough lessons from the attack in March that led to the suspension of train service on the Abuja-Kaduna route.

The Minister also noted that a system has been put in place that will ensure prompt monitoring of movements on the rail tracks.

According to him, the system would avail President Muhammadu Buhari, concerned ministries, and security agencies the opportunity to see what goes on on the tracks without delays.

Recall that the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) suspended train service along the Abuja-Kaduna rail line on the 28th of March 2022 after terrorists attacked a moving passenger train in Kaduna State.

After bombing the moving train, the insurgents killed some passengers on board and abducted more than 60 others, the attack attracted international and national outrage.

Distraught family members had protested several times to demand the release of their loved ones.

Sambo had said the Abuja-Kaduna rail line will not resume until all those kidnapped by bandits in March are rescued and reunited with their families.

After much persistence, the terrorists released the kidnapped passengers in batches with the last hostages regaining freedom on the 5th of October 2022.
