Akpabio warns of security risks, urges Tinubu to review Police withdrawal from lawmakers

Akpabio raised the concern during a session at the National Assembly, where he said the absence of police escorts could endanger lawmakers, especially given the prevailing insecurity across parts of the country. He noted that many legislators travel long distances and often return home late, making them vulnerable without adequate protection.

According to the Senate President, the appeal is not about privilege but safety, stressing that lawmakers represent the people and must be adequately protected to effectively carry out their constitutional duties.

He urged the federal government to review the policy in the interest of national security, while assuring Nigerians that the National Assembly remains committed to working with the executive to address security challenges confronting the country.
