FG urges citizens to expose VIPs using police escorts

Story by Mercy Adaje

The Presidency has appealed to Nigerians to support the enforcement of President Bola Tinubu’s directive on the withdrawal of police escorts from VIPs by reporting individuals who violate the order.

Daniel Bwala, the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, made the appeal during an interview on TVC, where he encouraged citizens to record and share evidence of VIPs still being escorted by police officers.

“If you identify a celebrity, a private sector person, or any individual who has police against the executive order of the president, as much as you can, capture evidence, whether a photograph or video,” Bwala stated.

He clarified that the directive does not apply to all public officials, noting that certain categories of government personnel will retain some form of security. However, such protection may come from other agencies like the State Security Service (SSS) or Civil Defence rather than the police.

The move forms part of the government’s broader effort to optimise the deployment of police resources, ensuring that officers are available for public safety rather than private escort duties.
