Christopher Maikalangu wins AMAC chairmanship election

The candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Christopher Maikalangu, has emerged winner of the chairmanship election in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).

Maikalangu was declared winner after the collation of results from the various wards across the council, securing the highest number of valid votes cast in the closely contested poll. The Returning Officer announced the results amid cheers from APC supporters who gathered at the collation centre in Abuja.

The election, conducted as part of the FCT Area Council polls, witnessed participation from major political parties, including the APC and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Observers described the exercise as largely peaceful, with the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) deployed to enhance transparency and credibility.

In his acceptance remarks, Maikalangu expressed gratitude to the residents of AMAC for their support and pledged to prioritize grassroots development. He promised to focus on infrastructure improvement, sanitation, primary healthcare, and youth empowerment initiatives across the council.

Party leaders hailed the victory as a reflection of public confidence in the APC’s local governance agenda, while opposition parties called for unity and urged the winner to govern inclusively.
