Anambra Govt panel confirms manipulation of UTME result by Mmesoma, recommends apology, counselling

The Anambra State Government’s panel of inquiry has confirmed that Mmesoma Joy Ejikeme manipulated her Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) result, obtaining a score of 249 instead of 362.

In an eight-page report released on Friday and addressed to Governor Professor Chukwuma Soludo, the 8-member panel recommended that Mmesoma promptly issue an unreserved written apology to the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), her school—the Anglican Girls’ Secondary School in Uruagu Nnewi—and the state government.

Additionally, the panel recommended that Mmesoma undergo psychological counselling and therapy.

The panel conducted interviews with relevant parties, including Mmesoma, JAMB officials, individuals involved in the process, and the principal of Anglican Girls’ Secondary School.

According to the panel’s findings, Mmesoma had submitted a request to JAMB with a different registration number, claiming a UTME result with an aggregate score of 362, consisting of English: 98, Physics: 89, Biology: 94, and Chemistry: 81.

However, JAMB confirmed her actual score to be 249 through an appropriate rebuttal, highlighting the disparity from the standard JAMB format.

The panel also noted several red flags raised by JAMB officials, such as a different date of birth, a different registration number, and a discarded notification of results template since 2021.

Governor Professor Chukwuma Soludo had established the eight-member panel on Wednesday to investigate the ongoing controversy between JAMB and Mmesoma regarding her alleged manipulated UTME result.

Mmesoma, a student of Anglican Girls’ Secondary School in Nnewi, had attracted attention for supposedly achieving the “highest score” of 362 in the UTME. However, JAMB maintained that the score had been manipulated.

As of now, JAMB has not responded to the panel’s report and has not reversed its decision to impose a three-year ban on Mmesoma or withdraw her original score of 249.
