Armed bandits kill DPO, abduct wife, daughter of prominent businessman in Katsina

Armed bandits on Wednesday morning killed a Divisional Police Officer (DPO), DSP AA Rano in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State, during an attack on Magama section of Jibia town.

Neptune Prime’s correspondent gathered that the bandit arrived at the area around 3 am and laid siege to it for 3 hours, despite resistance by security agents and vigilante members.

One of the residents of the area told the media through telephone calls that the bandits were in the area to kidnap the family of a businessman in Magama Jibia. Another APC Chieftain told the Press that Magama is the main business part of Jibia, the town that lies a few kilometres from the border to the Niger Republic.

According to a source, the bandits stormed Magama Jibia in the night, around 3 am and went straight to the resident of Alhaji Lawali Magama to kidnap his family. They abducted the wife of the businessman and one of his daughters, but people quickly mobilized vigilante members, Police and Soldiers to the area, but the bandits came in a large group and positioned themselves in strategic areas and this is how they ambushed the DPO and killed him.

The DPO came in a car with 2 soldiers with some policemen to bring reinforcement because the bandits were shooting from all directions. They succeeded in spraying the DPO’s car with bullets and the DPO died instantly, similarly, 3 police officers and a civilian were killed while some soldiers received bullets shots.

Gambo Isa, the PPRO of Katsina Police command confirmed the incident and promised to issue a statement later. Recently, a village head and four other people were killed in the area including ten people that were killed in Guga village.
