Arteta labels PSG ‘best Team in the world’ after Champions League final defeat

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has hailed Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) as the “best team in the world” following his side’s heartbreaking defeat in the UEFA Champions League final on Saturday.

The Gunners fell short in their quest for a maiden European crown after losing 4-3 on penalties to PSG following a 1-1 draw after extra time at the Puskás Aréna in Budapest.

Speaking after the match, Arteta praised the French champions and their manager, Luis Enrique, for their remarkable achievements and consistency on the biggest stage in European club football.

“I want to congratulate PSG and especially Luis Enrique. In my opinion, they are the best team in the world,” Arteta said.

Arsenal had started brightly and took the lead through Kai Havertz, raising hopes of a historic triumph. However, PSG responded through Ousmane Dembélé, who converted a penalty to level the contest and force extra time.

With neither side able to find a winner in the additional 30 minutes, the final was decided by a penalty shootout. PSG held their nerve from the spot, while a crucial miss from Arsenal proved costly as the French side successfully retained the trophy.

The victory marked another milestone for PSG under Luis Enrique, who has transformed the club into a dominant force in European football. The triumph also secured back-to-back Champions League titles for the Paris-based club.

Despite the disappointment, Arteta urged his players to learn from the defeat and use the experience as motivation for future success. The Arsenal boss expressed pride in his team’s journey to the final and insisted the club would continue striving to compete at the highest level.

The result leaves Arsenal still searching for their first Champions League title, while PSG further cement their place among Europe’s elite clubs.
