Atiku advises Tinubu on ways to revive Nigeria’s economy

Former Vice President and presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2023 general election, Atiku Abubakar, has outlined a comprehensive reassessment of the 2024 budget as one of six actions that President Bola Tinubu must take to revive the economy.
Abubakar criticized the Tinubu administration for failing to address economic challenges and worsening microeconomic instability with its policies.
The former vice president also criticized President Tinubu for not having a clear plan to improve the economy before implementing policies.
He described Tinubu’s policies, such as removing petrol subsidies and implementing a new foreign exchange policy, as misguided and damaging to the economy.

According to Abubakar, Tinubu’s actions have exacerbated Nigeria’s economic problems, leading to increased joblessness, poverty, and economic instability.
He also noted that Nigeria’s position as Africa’s leading economy has slipped under Tinubu’s administration, with citizens facing severe economic hardships.
Abubakar emphasized the importance of trust in leadership and highlighted the need for the government to implement effective policies to attract investors and stimulate economic growth, while urging the Tinubu administration to quickly reassess the 2024 budget, prioritise fiscal measures to address rising commodity prices, and ease restrictions on food imports.
In addition to budget reassessment, Abubakar called for a review of the Social Investment Programme to support vulnerable households and small businesses.
He also emphasized the importance of addressing security challenges, especially in agricultural areas affected by terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping.
Abubakar warned of severe food shortages in Nigeria if these issues are not addressed promptly.
