French football legend Thierry Henry has clarified his earlier “bad luck” remark involving Nigerian Super Eagles shorts worn by American streamer IShowSpeed during a live broadcast of the United States’ 4–1 win over Paraguay.
Henry had joked on-air that the mixed outfit—Nigeria’s Super Eagles shorts paired with a USA jersey—was “bad luck,” a comment that came shortly after Paraguay scored during the match. The remark quickly went viral and sparked criticism online, with many fans interpreting it as disrespectful to Nigeria and its national team, the Nigeria national football team.
Responding to the backlash, Henry stressed that the comment was purely humorous and not meant as an insult. He explained that he would have made the same joke regardless of the country involved, adding that it was simply about “not breaking the set” in a light-hearted context.
