Bandits abduct 25 in fresh attack on Kano border communities

At least 25 residents have been kidnapped and two others injured following a new bandit attack on Unguwar Tsamiya in Faruruwa village and the neighbouring Dabawa community in Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State.

The incident, which occurred on Sunday night, came barely a day after a similar assault in Yan Kamaye community of Tsanyawa Local Government Area—another border settlement near Katsina—where three people were taken.

Eyewitness accounts revealed that the attackers invaded the villages late at night, firing shots indiscriminately and causing residents to flee before abducting dozens and injuring two individuals.

Confirming the incident, Ammar Wakili, spokesperson to the Chairman of Shanono Local Government, noted that authorities were aware of the attack but were still gathering full details.

“The attack happened, but we are currently trying to confirm all the details before releasing an official statement,” Wakili stated.

The continued raids have intensified fear among residents of communities along the Kano–Katsina boundary, many of whom worry that insecurity is gradually penetrating deeper into Kano despite claims of enhanced security efforts.
