Fifteen more of the 121 students kidnapped from Bethel Baptist Secondary School in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna state have regained their freedom.

According to Channels Television, the 15 students were released on Sunday after a ransom was paid to the bandits, but the government or security agencies are yet to confirm this claim.

However, Chairman of the Kaduna State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev. Joseph Hayab confirmed to newsmen that 15 students have regained their freedom.

Recalled that bandits had on July 5 attacked Bethel Baptist Secondary School and took away 121 students from their hostels.

Earlier, the bandits released 28 of the students on July 25, sources said a ransom was paid to the kidnappers.

Some of the students managed to escape from their captors between July 22 and August 3. So far, 56 of the abducted students have regained their freedom, leaving 65 others in captivity.

Bandits have attacked several schools in Kaduna state with over 1,000 students kidnapped. Most of the victims have since returned after their families paid ransom to the gunmen, but some are still in captivity.

Despite the incessant attacks on communities in Kaduna, the state government says it will no longer consider the option of negotiation with criminals, leaving family and friends to decide the fate of their loved ones.
