UAE closes airspace, Qatar airways suspends flights as Iran attacks U.S. bases
The United Arab Emirates has closed its airspace to civilian aircraft following Iranian missile attacks on U.S. military bases across the Middle East, triggering widespread disruption to regional and international flights.
Authorities said the temporary closure was a precautionary measure aimed at ensuring passenger safety amid rising security concerns. Major airports, including Dubai and Abu Dhabi, experienced immediate operational suspensions and flight diversions.
In neighbouring Qatar, the national carrier Qatar Airways announced the suspension of flights after Qatari airspace was also closed. The airline said services would resume once aviation authorities declare it safe to operate.

The airspace shutdown follows missile strikes reportedly launched by Iran targeting U.S. military installations in several Gulf states. Security sources said the attacks were in retaliation for recent military actions involving the United States and Israel. The Gulf region serves as a major global aviation hub linking Europe, Asia and Africa, and the closures have led to cancellations, rerouted flights and delays worldwide.
