A Delta State based banker has reportedly committed suicide after complaining of mental health on Facebook.

The banker identified as Nwokorie Nnamdi Godson was said to have died on Sunday after complaining the day before (Saturday).

According to reports, Godson hung himself on a water tank scaffold at Ugbeyiyi community in Sapele.

Confirming the incident, Delta State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Bright Edafe, said on Monday that the police are yet to ascertain the circumstances surrounding his death.

He said, “It happened in Sapele. It’s confirmed. No details for now. The investigation is on. It looks like a suicide case but we’re trying to see if there’s anything [more]. We can’t rule out the possibility of foul play.”

However, prior to Godson’s death, he made a disturbing Facebook post about mental health where he lamented about struggling with his own mind.

“I no longer have a mind of my own. Cos I now do things I later regret. The struggle is not funny anymore. I am still good at heart so u know,” he wrote in the caption of about three of his photos.

After his demise, friends and well-wishers took to the comment section of the post to express their shock and pay condolence.

“When he posted this there was no comment but, now that he committed suicide, everyone is here to shed crocodile tears,” one Facebook user wrote.

In response, another said: “People didn’t understand that post, I for one thought it was a quote or any other caption people give to pictures. So you that understood it, why didn’t you alert other people about it.

“You people should stop the habits of painting yourselves saints. People are simply showing their genuine concern. It’s possible you didn’t see it on time just the way others didn’t see it too. Stop the blame game.”
