Billiri Tragedy: Gombe gov sympathises with victims, orders probe

Gombe State Governor, Inuwa Yahaya, has ordered an investigation into the tragic accident that occurred during an Easter procession in Billiri local government area of the state on Monday.

Neptune Prime reports that a heavy-duty truck rammed into a procession celebrating Easter Monday resulting in the loss of five lives and injuries to many others.

Reacting to the tragedy, Governor Yahaya expressed deep sorrow and concern over the tragic incident.

The truck was said to be transporting grains from Adamawa State to Gombe and allegedly suffered brake failure and lost control.

Reacting to the tragedy, the governor, through the director-general, Press Affairs, Isma’ila Uba Misilli, described the incident as heartbreaking and regrettable.

“This is a dark and painful moment for the families affected and for all of us as a people. On behalf of the government and people of Gombe State, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and pray for the swift and full recovery of those currently receiving treatment,” he said.

Meanwhile, the governor has directed the relevant authorities to immediately investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident and vowed that those found culpable would face the full wrath of the law.
