British Council raises IELTS fee for Nigerians to N139,000

The British Council in Nigeria has disclosed an increase in the fees for the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) examinations, marking the second adjustment within the past five months.

Effective February 1, 2024, applicants will now be required to pay N139,000 for both the Computer Academic and General Training Modules.

The British Council attributed this fee hike to the escalating costs associated with conducting the examinations, highlighting the need to maintain the quality of services provided.

In an official notice posted on their website, the council stated, “We would like to inform you that there has been a review of our IELTS fees. The new price list of the IELTS range of tests offered by the British Council will be effective for registrations on or after 1 February 2024.”

The notice further clarified that the adjustment is in response to the increased costs of delivering the exams, and it is expected to support the continuation of diverse services and comprehensive support for individuals striving to achieve their language proficiency goals.

This recent increase in the IELTS examination fee comes just five months after the last adjustment in September 2023, when the fee rose from a range of N80,000 to N90,000 to the current N107,500.

Expressing gratitude to applicants, the British Council emphasized its commitment to providing valuable services in the field of language proficiency testing.
