Buhari denies ownership of revoked Abuja land – Garba Shehu

Former President Muhammadu Buhari does not personally own the recently revoked land in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), according to his spokesperson, Garba Shehu.

The land, reportedly revoked by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, was allocated under the name “Muhammadu Buhari Foundation.” Shehu clarified in a statement on Thursday that the foundation was established by well-meaning individuals and encountered difficulties with the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), which issued an exorbitant bill for the land’s certificate of occupancy.

“This may have been a deliberate act rather than an error,” Shehu noted, adding that the revocation came as no surprise.

Shehu also dismissed speculation about Buhari’s personal involvement, stating, “As a person, the former President has a plot of land to his name in Abuja. During his tenure, he declined an offer to acquire additional land, insisting those without land should benefit.”

He urged critics to “get their facts right” and refrain from tarnishing Buhari’s reputation, emphasising that the former president was not implicated in the matter.

This clarification follows widespread debate over Wike’s decision to revoke land titles belonging to several prominent individuals, including former government officials.
