Building under construction collapses in Abuja, 1 trapped worker Rescued

One person was rescued after a building under construction partially collapsed in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja. The incident took place in the Central Business District, near Taj Bank, and was reported to the Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) one hour after construction workers unsuccessfully attempted to rescue their trapped colleague.

The spokesperson for FEMA, Nkechi Isa, disclosed that a team from FEMA and the FCT fire service used extrication equipment and the construction company’s excavator to rescue the trapped man.

The victim, who was working on casting the first floor of the building when the incident occurred, is currently receiving treatment at the National Hospital, Abuja.

He emphasized the importance of prioritizing the safety of construction workers and future occupants by avoiding the use of substandard materials and cutting corners during construction.

The cause of the partial collapse is still unclear, and the investigation is ongoing.
