Buni, Zulum, Fintiri meet World Bank on development projects

Yobe State Governor, Hon. (Dr) Mai Mala Buni, alongside his Borno and Adamawa State counterparts, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum and Umaru Fintiri, held a strategic meeting with officials of the World Bank in Nigeria to strengthen collaboration on projects aimed at improving the lives of citizens, particularly women and vulnerable groups.

The meeting, held yesterday, focused on enhancing the effectiveness of ongoing World Bank-supported initiatives across the three North-East states.

World Bank Country Director, Mathew Verghis, commended the governors for their dedication to the successful implementation of World Bank programmes and urged continued cooperation to consolidate the gains achieved so far.

According to a statement issued by Mamman Mohammed, Director General of Press and Media Affairs to the Yobe Governor, the governors acknowledged the World Bank’s vital contributions but called for reforms to address delays caused by bureaucratic and procurement processes.

They also emphasized the need for programmes to be more flexible and community-driven to reflect local realities, encourage ownership, and accelerate results.

Discussions focused on key initiatives including AGILE, Nigeria for Women Project, L-PRES, ACReSAL, and SOLID — all designed to improve education, health, agriculture, livestock development, and economic empowerment across the region.

Both parties agreed to strengthen coordination and tackle administrative bottlenecks to ensure faster and more impactful implementation of development
