Catholic priest shoots teenager for throwing firecracker inside church

A Catholic priest, Reverend Father Joseph Enyinaya, has been arrested for allegedly shooting a teenage boy to death after the boy reportedly threw a firecracker, also known as a banger, inside St. Columbus Catholic Church in Amaimo, Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State.

The incident occurred on December 31, with eyewitnesses claiming that the priest drew a revolver and fired at the boy during the altercation.

Confirming the arrest, Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye, said: “The priest has been arrested, and the body of the boy has been recovered and deposited at Atta Ikeduru Mortuary.”

He further stated that a detailed investigation is ongoing to clarify the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.

“More investigation is expected to shed additional light on the events leading up to the incident,” Okoye added.
